With so many tips and suggestions on how to stop smoking it is really simple to see why so many people really do not quit. The vast majority of people are completely confused by the entire process! What of the conflicting messages passed around?

The fact is that with so much information passed around that is confusing to people it is often much simpler to just continue smoking and hoping for a simple solution. Really taking the necessary steps to really quit smoking is not simple. It means coming to terms with the fact that stopping smoking really is best for you, as well as your health.

I’m sure most, if not all smokers are well aware that giving up smoking will lead to a dramatic improvement in their health, but figuring out how to quit smoking and beat the addiction is never that simple. There are distractions and temptations every where we go, so it’s hardly surprising the failure rate of quitting smoking is so high.

Tip #1 What is your real reason for wanting to quit smoking? It better be a excellent one, or when times get tough you’ll likely fall at the first hurdle. Having a powerful and compelling reason to quit will keep you focussed and motivated.

Tip #2 As you make progress, give yourself small rewards for your achievements. Quitting cold turkey is hard, so these rewards will help spur you on, and are fantastic ways to boost your motivation.

Tip #3 Draw up a plot of action for your quitting strategy. Pick the stop smoking program that suits you best and be prepared to stick with it. Give your plot a six week run. If you haven’t quit after that, try another program or method.

Tip #4 Spend some time to deal with any issues that you may be facing. If your smoking helps to alleviate your stress levels, look at alternative ways you can combat that stress so that you don’t need to rely on cigarettes anymore for it.

Tip #5 Don’t give yourself any breaks. If you fail to achieve one of your goals, make sure you punish yourself accordingly. If you break the plot and sneak a cigarette, punish yourself by refraining from one of your favorite activities the next day. This drives a clear message to your subconscious that you mean business.

Tip #6 A problem shared is a problem halved. I’m sure your friends and family want to help if you let them – so don’t reckon you’ve failed if you need to question for help.

Tip #7 Look for someone to quit with you. If you are entirely on your own, you are going to be much more likely to slip back into smoking. If someone is working with you and holding you accountable, you are more likely to struggle to succeed. Working to quit smoking is not simple, but hard tasks are much simpler to accomplish with a partner.

Tip #8 Ensure you are getting plenty of sleep. The job of quitting smoking is quite hard. If you are not getting the rest you need, you are much more likely to be cranky, upset and mad with the world. This is very counterproductive to your goal of quitting smoking for excellent.

Tip #9 Aim to quit for excellent. This might seem a bit weird, but if you are just plotting to quit for a weekend you are not going to place much effort into the process. If you are plotting to quit for excellent, a lot more time and effort is going to go into the process as well as your plot to quit.

Tip #10 Make of list of things you can do to take your mind of cigarettes. You know that when you have thought about cigarettes in the past, you thought about lighting up. You now need to get rid of those thoughts as quickly as possible by focussing your mind on other things.

I was a teenager in a state that depended on tobbaco for a living. I somked but the people that I helped place in their tobacco did not smoke and told me not to smoke. This was confusing. I have been smoking for over 50 years and delight in it very much, but I need to stop. You are right when you said there were a lot of ways to stop smoking, but if you do not want to stop you are wasting your money. The stuff you use to stop smoking is very expensive.

Beat of luck to all that try!
    George
