For most of us that take pride in the way we look, the thought of suffering with acne or Zits, may at first seem awful; however, many effective treatments are available. Medical investigation and research is ongoing and making interesting discoveries; this is good news with the range of effective skin care treatments improving all the time. Drugstore: Preventative treatment

Internet or Drugstore: Treatment to help relieve the condition

Prescription only: doctors or dermatologists prescribe special treatments

The hottest news in the anti-aging scene comes from South Korea, where scientists claim to have uncovered a fat molecule with strong anti-aging potential from tests on the ability of lipids to fight skin aging.

Published in the Journal of Lipid Research, the study looked into the impact of seven naturally occurring fat molecules on the way skin ages.

The researchers said three of the lipids examined were capable of preventing UV-radiation from reducing collagen expression - and may even increase collagen in undamaged skin cells.

As I state in my Report, I believe that anti-aging from the inside out provides some of the best benefits in terms of slowing down or stopping the signs of aging. That being said, for people who want visible results relatively quickly - in terms of skin care and wrinkle treatment - there are ways to topically treat the signs of aging. Unfortunately, this sphere is just as convoluted as many other areas related to anti-aging.

Anti aging wrinkle creams can have wonderful anti aging effects. They can also have little to no effect on anything but your budget. So the first thing you should do is do your homework before buying your next (or first) anti aging wrinkle cream. More on this later.

For now, let’s delve into one of anti aging wrinkle cream’s best companions - home made anti aging face masks. These concoctions, when put together with the right ingredients, can lift years off your face, as well as make your anti aging wrinkle cream’s job a lot easier.

The exact cause of acne in most cases is not known. Many doctors believe that acne results from several different factors. One of such factors, and that is very important, is the rise in one’s hormone levels. During the pubescent years, the male sex hormones called androgens increase in boys and girls. This can cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and produce more sebum, which results in acne.

A cause of acne is heredity or genetics as researchers believe that there is a tendency to develop acne as it can be inherited from your parents. In fact studies have shown that many school-age boys who are suffering from acne have a family history of the disorder.

Natural skincare has grown to become a multi-million dollar industry with an endless range of brands to choose from. So what should you look for in a brand?
Many natural skincare products available in the market contain only small amounts of natural extracts added to a chemical or synthetic base. Unfortunately, when these extracts are suspended in a chemical synthetic base, any real enzyme activity the plant extract might have had is totally lost.
The problem is compounded, because we are also exposing ourselves to potentially harmful ingredients in the form of synthetic bases.
Other ranges may produce a high quality product with high levels of natural ingredients, but still contain some ingredients that you may want to avoid. ‘Ethically Natural’ skincare brands should contain no artificial chemicals or unnatural preservatives, blending science and nature together, to create a natural, highly potent, botanical product.
According to New Zealand skincare brand Living Natures head of Research and Development, Dr Greg Clark, skin responds best to natural skincare, because our bodies have evolved with nature.
“The human body has developed over hundreds of thousands of years in tune with nature and the environment - plants in particular have been a major source of nutrients and vitamins. Our bodies have evolved systems to extract these nutrients from plant material and utilise them to nourish and grow our bodies and maintain our health and wellbeing.”
Consumers wanting to be sure they are getting a truly natural skincare, should look for the mark of bodies such as BDIH who only certify ‘safe’ and ‘green’ products and do not allow any of the unsafe ‘nasties’ commonly found in many products.

Cleanse
Each morning and night. Start by electing a good quality facial cleanser. facial cleanser will help clear away all impurities without drying or irritating.
Method: If wearing eye makeup, first see an eye makeup remover with soft cotton pad or cotton ball. Apply cleanser with fingertips, using a gentle upward and outward motion. Remove cleanser with damp cotton wool pads.

Regardless of the extent of your routine, every morning millions of woman wake up and put their makeup on.
Makeup is far from a new idea. The oldest archaeological evidence of makeup is found in ancient Egypt and dated around 4000BC. It has been a part of many cultures for centuries. The Greeks and the Romans used it, as did the Persians and the Chinese. Queen Elizabeth I is famous for her makeup – the white mask of youth. Queen Victoria is famous for her abhorrence of it, publicly declaring makeup improper, vulgar and acceptable for use only by actors.
Today we look back and cringe when we think of our female predecessors applying products with mercury or lead to their faces and not realising what sort of side effects it would have. But the truth is, today we apply any number of products that are absorbed by our skin, often without really knowing what they contain. We trust that the brand has our best interests at heart, but sadly, in some cases, the bottom line can be more important than the quality of the ingredients.
There is a growing awareness and preference, both here and overseas, for skincare and cosmetics that are more naturally based and do not contain ‘toxic’ ingredients. There are many studies that have found alarming links between commonly used cosmetic ingredients and serious health conditions. Ingredients like Sodiumlauryle Sulphate (SLS) and Parabens have been known to cause eczema and contact dermatitis and can actually lead to premature aging. Along with this personal concern, there is also a move to make sure that the companies producing these products are behaving in an ethical and responsible manner. Despite ongoing campaigns, many companies still test their products on animals and still include ingredients known to be potentially harmful to humans and the environment.
With so many products on the market, it can often being a daunting experience approaching any beauty counter. So as a consumer, how do you decide?
It is important to read labels and ask questions. Look for a range of makeup that:
- contains natural and organic ingredients
- does not contain parabens, SLS or petroleum derivatives
- does not test on animals
- does not use excessive packaging Couleur Caramel is an innovative range of make-up that combines natural ingredients and up to date technology to give you professional quality makeup without compromise.
