Letting Go – The First Step Towards Solving Sleep Disorders

One of The best known facts about insomnia and other various sleep better is that the harder you try to fall asleep, the longer it takes you. Even those who don’t suffer from any sleeping disorder know this all too well… And we all want to know deep sleep ?

In a Study preformed at one of the leading sleep clinics, Doctors divided the participants into two groups. Both Groups were questioned to go and sleep, but the first group were promised financial reward to the one who will fall asleep first. The finding were not surprising- When the patient who fell asleep first in the first group did so, the entire second group were already sleeping like babies. The reason for that is falling asleep is not an action; it’s not something you DO.

Falling asleep is something that happens to you, and it only happens when you let go. Let go of all matters of the day, all worries, concerns and most importantly letting go of desperately wanting to fall asleep quick. You can’t let go while still trying to maintain control- your brain will stay in “high gear” and, consequently… you stay awake. You keep trying to subtly push yourself towards sleep, Even though you already know it won’t work.

So we have established that relaxing and letting go is crucial in order to delight in a excellent night sleep. You must be asking yourself, so I can do it? Am I destined to spend hours each night rolling from one side of the bed to the other? The Answer is tough but really quite simple:

1. You must realize that you have conditioned yourself to subtly but systematically try to fall asleep each you go to bed. And by making this mistake you have basically conditioned yourself to stay awake…
2. Take the thought that “you have to fall asleep” off your mind, it will only make you stay awake for much longer. Your brain will fall asleep on its own, without you having to do anything, if only you allow it to slow down all by itself.

Just reckon about all those times during the day when you start to feel incredibly sleepy (somehow it always happens at the incorrect time and place- Behind the wheel, at the office, etc…). You start to have distress concentrating; your eyes want to shut down, and all you want to do is find a nice warm bed to lie in.

What’s occurring at those times is that your brain activity is slowing down. Your body temperature is dropping. Trying to remain awake at those times is extremely hard- which just shows you exactly how much control you have over your sleeping or waking states.
The brain falls asleep when it’s ready to sleep, NOT when you choose you want it to.

The trick is to gently nudge your brain WITHOUT focusing on falling asleep…
…By focusing your mind and thoughts over something dull, uninteresting or at least not stimulating. Here are a couple of suggestions:

1. Focus on your breath: Just pay attention to your breathing cycle and nothing else.
2. Focus on the spaces between your thoughts: instead of following each and every thought or thought that spring to your mind, focus on the empty space between one thought and the one to come after and watch this space grow wider and wider…
3. Relax the different parts of your body.
4. Imagine yourself relaxing in a warm and gorgeous setting.
5. Listen to a brainwave entertainment session.

I can not stress enough how effective brainwave entertainment session is, nor can I clarify in detail about it (that’s a whole other article), but I will clarify shortly why it’s the best method for relaxing and letting go:

1. You remain passive and there’s nothing special to do, so you don’t feel like you must stay in control.
2. Mechanically slows down your brainwaves and gently let your mind enter a sleeping state.
3. its safe, and health promoting
4. Simple, no training or effort is necessary
5. Quickly “trains” your brain to slow down on its own in the future
