Acne is unfortunately a honestly common skin condition which is characterised by blackheads and whiteheads as well as pus-filled spots. Acne usually comes about during puberty but there are also many twenty and even thirty year olds who still suffer from acne. Acne can ruin people’s confidence and cause them a lot of distress until it is resolved with the right skin acne treatment. There are many skin acne treatments out there on the market but it is well worth spending a small time researching the different possible acne treatments before you go ahead with anything. There are various skin acne treatments such as: treatments that are applied directly to the skin, oral antibiotics which are tablets taken by mouth, oral contraceptive pills, isotretinoin capsules and other treatments.
Skin acne treatments applied directly to the skin are normally used for honestly mild acne. These include the many creams and lotions available at the supermarket and also through prescription. Sometimes these treatments may cause skin irritation. Many of the acne treatments applied to the skin include a variety of anti-acne agents such as benzoyl peroxide, antibiotics, retinoids (such as tretinoin, isotretinoin and adapalene), azelaic acid and nicotinamide.
Oral contraceptive pills can sometimes be used as an acne treatment for women who have acne. The most effective oral contraceptive contains a hormone blocker which reduces the amount of oil produced by the skin and it usually takes three to four months for the benefits of oral contraceptives to show.
Isotretinoin is another acne treatment which is very powerful but can cause a number of serious side effects and can only be prescribed by a dermatologist. Isotretinoin can also harm an unborn child, so women are questioned to have a pregnancy test beforehand and every month during treatment. This method is not recommended unless the acne is extremely serious, but even so, the side effects can be serious as isotretinoin may cause depression and suicidal feelings.
There are many types of pills, creams and lotions that can be bought for acne treatment but the most effective method I have found is to assess possible causes in one’s lifestyle, skin care and diet habits and then to address these. It is best to avoid harsh chemicals and prescription drugs if this can be avoided. Various factors such as vitamin deficiencies, food allergies and poor skin hygiene can bring about or worsen acne. These factors can be easily remedied once you have found the right source of the problem and handling these points can free you of acne for excellent. There are various texts available that can help educate you on what lifestyle factors can aggravate acne and what natural treatments can help. It is always best to seek a natural skin acne treatment if possible and avoid unnecessary harsh chemicals and prescription drugs.
