* Try soaking a cotton wool pad in diluted witch hazel and placing on the hemroid

* Treat constipation quickly by drinking lots of fluids to keep stool soft and eating a diet rich in fruit, vegetables and fiber

* Do not strain on the toilet-if you cannot go within a couple of minutes, try again later rather than pushing hard

* Try to keep moving-do not sit or stand in the same position for longer than an hour at a time

In addition to these, I then read some information about how to treat hemroids which stopped me dead in my tracks.
