Longevity is more about being active than whether you are overweight, says study
When it come to living longer, fitness may trump. Men and women who were fit but overweight or obese has lower mortality risk than those of normal weight but low fitness levels.
Being fit provides protection against mortality in these men and women 60 and older whether they’re normal weight, overweight or obese.
Lots of people in countries like United States and many other live increasingly sedentary lifestyles and obesity remain high. At the same time, the populations are ageing in many nations.
“I believe we have an obesity epidemic. It’s bad sign. We should not ignore obesity, but what happens all too often is we focus nearly exclusively on obesity and forget the activity and fitness part.”
We shouldn’t be scared and think, ‘Oh, I’m overweight, I’m obese, It’s useless for me to be physically active.
If you’re overweight or obese and you’re sedentary and unfit and you start taking three 10-minute walks a day and you do that at least five days a week, you’re not going to lose an enormous amount of weight.
You’re going to still be heavy. But you’re going to be much healthier if you do that three 10-minutes walk a day. Healthy diet also needs to be included such as eat lots of fruit, vegetables and whole grains.
Obesity is the risk factor for cardiovascular disease, certain cancers and the most common form of diabetes.
Half the adults do not engage in regular physical exercise. Exercise cuts the chances of dying of coronary heart disease, as well as lowering the risk for stroke, colon cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Great post. Food today gives people a higher chance of getting obese. The convenience of food today or fast food at that is one thing. But unfortunately its also the fact that those who manufacture these foods are also responsible for the obese epidemic. I mean look what they put in these foods, the additives are there to enhance the flavour so we will want more. And also to prolong the shelf life of these products which in turn plays a part in the “obese epidemic”. to the point where these foods are cheaper alternative for families on a low budget. The foods which are healthy and beneficial to us can be quite expensive for some people or families. Do I hear any Amens out there? or is this just a lot of crap.
