WATCH OUT FOR HIDDEN SUGARS
Filed Under Nutrition | 3 Comments
Finding out whether a food product contains sugar requires more sleuthing today then it once did. Only a few manufacturers currently include the word “sugar” in the list of ingredients of their sugar-containing products. Instead, wanting to avoid the sugar stigma that could negatively impact sales, many food producers hide the sugars behind a host of chemicals synonyms. Take a note that any product listing any of the following ingredients really does contain sugar:
- Dextrose
- Glucose
- Fructose
- Core Sweetener
- Maltodextrin
- Malt
- Sorghum
- Modified Cornstarch
- High-Fructose Corn Syrup

Common drug treatments for sinus infections - antibiotics and steroid nasal sprays - seem to be little better than doing nothing at all, British researchers said on Tuesday.
“Wide-scale overtreatment is likely occurring” because there is no proof many of these infections are bacterial in nature, Dr Ian Williamson of the University of Southampton and colleagues wrote in their report.
Antibiotics are useless against viruses, a common cause of sinus infections, and their overuse can lead to the development of drug-resistant bacteria.
